  • I saw the Lights!

    KVAL-police_lights_night

See that in your rear view mirror and your heart starts pounding!

    What did I do wrong?!?!?

I’m driving down 95 on cruise control, doing a hair over 70, minding my own business when I saw the lights.

I pulled over and a Sherriff comes to the window and asks me if I know how fast I was driving. I replied that I thought I was going 70. He replied in the affirmative and that I had passed him. (I did notice a Sherriff car driving slow in the right lane but didn’t see anything wrong with going the speed limit- so yes, I passed him) He went on to inform me that I was driving in a construction zone and asked if I knew what the speed limit was. I replied that I was unaware of the construction zone and did not know the limit. He said it was 60 through the area and that I need to slow down or would be sure to be pulled over by a Highway Patrolman. As he was talking a HP pulled up, got out and asked what was going on. The Sherriff informed the HP that I had been doing 70 in the construction zone. The HP got a strange look on his face and said “What construction zone? The speed limit is 70 along here!” They both chuckled a bit and then said I hadn’t done anything wrong and that I could go!

Gotta Love it! All that heart pounding and worrying for nothing!

  • Surgery Update

    Howdy friends!

Many of you have been inquiring so I figured it was time to give an update! Thank you so much for your prayers on my behalf. The surgery went very well. I was prepped for surgery at 6am, surgery started at 8am, I was in recovery by 9:15 and home by 11am! God is good! The Dr. said that everything went really well. He was able to remove several small bone chips as well as scraping a part of the bone that looked like it had a few more chips ready to come off. There was an excessive amount of fluid in my ankle joint that he also removed. He also tacked a piece of cartilage back into place and shortened one of the tendons on top of my foot (apparently it was letting my foot droop a bit too much). The surgery was done through 2 tiny cuts on the top of my foot so only one stitch was needed in each one to put me back together! Recovery has gone pretty well since then except for the first week following surgery. The pain killer they gave me didn’t work and I also developed an allergy to it- so on to pain killer number 2. That didn’t work either, so I went back to the doctor and he went ahead and put a cast on my foot to keep it stable so it wouldn’t move- moving it any at all was excruciatingly painful. I was on crutches as well- no weight bearing yet. I must say that the pain following the surgery made the pain of being kicked by a horse seem like a love tap! The cast helped some and I went on to pain killer number 3 and it did it’s best to at least take the edge off the pain- but made me really nauseous. A week after the surgery the Dr. took off the cast to see how everything looked and to remove the stitches. It looked fine- no swelling and the pain was getting more bearable at that point. He put another cast on and I was allowed to walk on it this time! The cast was on for a week to continue the healing. I just got it off yesterday!!! Yippeeee!!! And am back into a walking boot. I am doing range of motion exercises with it now and it is a bit painful and tight but I know things will shape up as time goes by. Because of the shortened tendon it is very difficult to point my toes down, but I’ll get there!!!!! Also, I still don’t have a lot of feeling on the ball of my foot or in my toes- so that is a learning curve for walking properly. I’ll be in the boot for 2 weeks before going back to the doctor for what will (hopefully) be my final visit and then go on to 4-6 weeks of Physical Therapy. I appreciate your continued prayers on my behalf! Here’s hoping for a dance party to celebrate a full recovery in October!

When I said, "My foot is slipping,"
your love, O LORD, supported me.

When anxiety was great within me,
your consolation brought joy to my soul.

    Psalm 94:18-19

Praise the LORD for his love throughout this whole ordeal- He truly is good all the time!

  • The Cast

Wow! Does life ever have a way of getting away from you!

Are the years flying by faster these days? Or is it just me?

    Riding Dixie- Memorial Day 2007

I won't bore you with all the goings on of my life but I would request prayer for the following:

Back in March and again in early April, I “sprained” my ankle. But…apparently it wasn't just a sprain and after 3 weeks of continued pain I got an x-ray at a walk in clinic. That Dr. said it's just a sprain give it a few more weeks. Well, I did and the pain increased so much that I couldn't drive with it and went to an orthopedist. By that time I was developing foot drop as well. He x-rayed it and immediately saw a cartilage chip and bone chip and was concerned at the condition of my tendons and ordered an MRI. The MRI revealed that my ankle joint was full of fluid and being aggravated by the bone and cartilage chips floating around in there too. I was scheduled for surgery to remove the problem and then..... I got kicked by a horse (Sky- see below!)

    - broke my fibula and suffered major nerve damage. My foot dropped completely and the Dr. was very concerned that I might not be able to walk again depending on the severity of the damage. So he put me in a cast 2 weeks ago to see if getting the ankle at a 90 degree angle and giving the nerve protection and time to rest would help with the healing.

I went to the Orthopedic Doctor earlier this week and he removed the cast to take a look. There was good news and bad news. The good news is that I can pick up my toes!!! The nerve was not so badly damaged as to restrict movement- however the foot drop is still there. The bad news is that I have really poor circulation in my whole leg and very little sensation of feeling especially in the right side of my leg and foot. So... there is still a long road ahead before I can start walking. I have to do therapy on my leg and foot 3 times a day- heat, massage, and ice. The Dr. is hoping that it will encourage the nerve to heal and rebuild. I visit him again in two weeks for another evaluation and to schedule the surgery on my ankle to remove the bone chip, cartilage chip and fluid from my ankle joint.
I am still in the cast (it is now removable) to keep the proper angle in my ankle and on crutches to allow the break to completely heal.

Victory and I spend a lot of time together on the couch. It is so nice to be loved!

I know that God will work all of this together for good in a way to bring Him glory. I am sure learning a lot of lessons in patience and humility! I really appreciate your prayers- this isn't over yet!!!

  • Need a smile? Watch this!

I don't know when I'll get a chance to put up my March or April updates, but I had to put this little video up for you to see! It is from the Anclote River Raid Reenactment Ball- well after the ball! I had fun chasing a litle one around the room and then it evolved to her chasing me around in a quite unique fashion! Enjoy!
